SCTCC President, Dr. Annesa Cheek
Dr. Annesa Cheek, SCTCC President since July 2018, is laser focused on enhancing student outcomes. She led the College through collaborative strategic planning amidst a national pandemic and racial unrest, to the new 5-year strategic plan—SCTCC Next—yielding SCTCC’s new mission, vision, shared beliefs, and first-ever commitment response to the student experience. These internal renewals are only a part of the progress toward an institutional transformation reflective of a passion for equity, strategic dialogue, and continuous learning. As President Cheek says, “Under the right conditions, all students can succeed…it is up to us to create the right conditions.”
Prior to her SCTCC presidency, Dr. Cheek served at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio since 2006, as Vice President of School and Community Partnerships Division, Chief Officer of Student Financial Services, the Senior Director of Advancement and Assistant to the President. Dr. Cheek is also a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC); Governor’s Appointee to the Executive Council for the Young Women’s Initiative of Minnesota; a member of the Alliance for Innovation and Transformation – a pacesetting organization for 2-year College CEOs; a member of several local organizational Boards; and a sought-after panelist and presenter in the region and nationally.
Dr. Cheek holds a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University, a master’s from the University of Dayton, and a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin.
